February 2000
Here you will find the accounts of our rides that we went
on during the month. Leave me an email note about your ride and I will publish
it here. All rides are reported more or less as they happened.

Although we have not had many rides this month, due to the poor conditions, I have managed to get out for some road rides as well as my twice weekly Spin class. This allows me to keep some of the fitness form last year, as well as resting up for the coming season.
Sunday 2/13: I went over to Montague Center at 2:00 for the ride. I was met there by Mark Courtermarche and Doug Dale. Doug, unfortunately didn't know that this was a MTB ride and so he rode his road bike from his home in So. Deerfield. After I apologized for not being clearer the type of ride we were doing, he decided to head back home. It was 35 degrees at ride time and Mark and I headed from town (with Doug, who soon turned for home) over to the Telephone Pole Trail. We hit the snowmobile tracks and found that the surface was perfect. We made it up the hill with a lot less effort than in the summer, because the snow was harder and smoother. At the top of the hill we turned and headed for the Toilet Bowl Trail. We had to stop and walk across a section of the trail that the snowmobiles had not been on. After that we rode at a steady pace over to the bottom of Red Rock. Mark said that he wasn't feeling good and he also had to get back home to get ready for work, so we rode along the base of the hill. We kept up a good pace as we rode over to the base of Willis Hill. At the bottom of the hill we turned and started back towards the start. We stopped at several points to enjoy the nice weather and the winter scenery. We rode back to the power lines where we crossed Northfield Rd. From there we rode back to the Telephone Pole Trail and then back to the center of town. It was a great ride of 9.7 miles that took us about an hour and a half.
