Tyler Hill Thrashing for Bob 8-26

As the daylight diminishes the rides are getting shorter so that we can finish the routes before dark. Tonight we headed north to Tyler Hill with a group of 30 riders. My plan was to keep out of the wind for as long as possible so that I could hang with the group over Tyler Hill. After that I wouldn’t have any problems dealing with the pace. I led the group from the shop over to Bernardston Road. It took a while for everyone to get going so I tried to keep the speed down until all the riders were in the paceline.

Bob, Alex and Kelley Ride The Plains
Ride Reports

muddy_bob-small.jpgI have tried to keep up with the ride reports but last week I got so far behind that I gave up. We had a good week of riding and I got to do rides on Monday with the beginner group; Tuesday a Cave Hill ride with the “B” Squad; Wednesday I did a MTB ride with Ant Penny; and I finished the week with a ride down to Amherst with the “B” group.

This week we got rained out on Monday and Tuesday’s ride was a four person ride. I could not gowith them because we just got a huge shipment in and I had to get that squared away.Silko, Four Sticks, Al Mason and Lauren did a ride over to Millers Falls and back through Norhfield and Bernardston.

Livestrong Challenge - Philadelphia
Ride Reports

Mark Newton-sm.jpgWhen Bob let me know about Mary Ellen's cancer diagnosis, I became very angry with this terrible disease. Cathy and I have both lost too many family and friends to this awful disease, and we still have too many people we know fighting the disease. So it became an issue of what can we do to help with those affected by this. It had been 5 years since I had done the Livestrong Challenge in Philadelphia, so Cathy and I decided to do this again as our little part inhelping this cause. We signed up to do the 10K walk on Saturday and I would do the Century ride on Sunday.

2010 D2R2, 100K
Ride Reports

d2r2-2010.jpgAfter years of hearing about how great (difficult? painful?) the D2R2 ride was, I decided to sign up this year. One of my main reasons was that I figured it would motivate me to get more miles in this Summer so I'd be ready for the ride.

Even so, I had no interest in doing the 180K. I think I'd stop having fun long before the 100 mile mark, so signed up for the 100K (62 mile) ride. I was still a bit concerned with the 62 miles for that ride, since I knew it could end up being 6 or more hours on the bike.

The weekend before the ride, I did the length of the state ride in VT (200 miles in 2 days) so I knew that I should be all set as far as fitness goes. I took it fairly easy on the few rides I did in the last week before the event.

Another good reason for not doing the 180K was the start time. There is no way that I would be ready to ride (much less AWAKE) at the 6:00AM start time for that ride. 9:00 was much more reasonable though it still meant getting up at 7:00... a few hours earlier than I was used to on the weekend.

Ok, so after a hard ride on Tuesday and a somewhat easy MTB ride on Wednesday I thought that I was going to have another hard ride down to NoHo tonight. As the day was winding down and I was getting ready to ride, Neil Quinn came into the shop. He bought some tires for his bike and then decided to join us for the ride.
