With some prompting from Knoepfchen we decided to hold a Halloween ride this year. Knoepfchen and I were the only one’s to have costumes (OK so mine was pretty lame.) and we donned them for the pre-ride photo shoot. When I finally got my lighting situation straightened out I headed out the back door to join the group waiting for me. MaryEllen took some photos of the group before we headed out for the trails. The riders included Mark Newton, Gary Cole, Ed Hofmeister, Mike Levin, Michelle, Mega, Curt, Mitch, Liam, Knoepfchen and me.

First of All, Brrr! I'm turning into a namby-pamby warm weather riding wuss. I'm just not ready for cold toes and hard layering choices when it comes to riding. Nonetheless, cooler weather notwithstanding, I made a point to get my sad, sorry, sunshine loving butt over to Bob's shop tonight for the annual Halloween Ride! Tonight, old favorite stomping grounds, mysterious disembodied skeletal voices and German-accented French maid would be the order of business.

bicycle bob.jpg It was a very warm, windy day with cloudless skies, a perfect day for a road ride. I went over to the shop a little early to do some work on my bike before the ride and pretty soon the riders started to show up. I got my bike squared away and was out the door a little after 1:00. Waiting for me in the parking lot was Steve Power, John Marcy, Michelle, Bob Shepherd, Mark Newton, Gary Cole, Dusty, Walters, and Bhrett Ahlstrom.

At 6:00 I had my gear loaded in the bus and I headed out for Montague Center with Shizna. When I arrived at the common I found that most of the riders had parked on the north side of the common instead of our usual parking spot on Main Street. Shizna and I quickly got our gear together and headed over to where the group was assembled. The group for tonight’s ride included Mega, Michelle, Curt, Mike Levin, Mark Newton, Gary Cole, Knoepfchen, Steve Power, Mitch, Hammerhead, Shizna and me. It was a clear but very chilly evening and most of the discussion was about what to wear for tonight. Most of the riders had on tights and a thermal jacket. I had all of that plus my winter boots and neoprene gloves.

Fall has arrived with a vengeance with cool temps and brisk winds. I arrived at the shop shortly before ride time and got ready to go on time. I was just about to hop on my bike when suddenly there was a hissing sound. It was my rear tire popping, so I went back into the shop and changed the tube. After that I led the group that included Mark Newton, Curt, Jamie, Bob Shepherd and Michelle over to Turners Falls.
