A Wet and Foggy Sunday Ride 12-28 PDF Print E-mail

We have been in a very unusual weather pattern for the last month or so. First we got bitter cold in early December and then a warm up. Then we got a three day snowstorm that left nearly 18 inches of snow on the ground two weeks ago followed by two rainstorms this week. The temperatures were predicted to get into the low 60’s today so I posted a ride. This posting got the attention of Chase, a reporter from the Recorder newspaper, and he wanted to join us. Since he did not have a road bike I offered to loan him one and I fitted him to a Bridgestone we had at the shop.

Christmas is always a busy time for me and this year was no exception. I usually try to do a group ride at some point during the holidays but the weather has not exactly cooperated this year and so no rides were possible. After getting up early on Christmas for the gifts and breakfast, I got a chance to get out for a quick road ride at 2:00.

MT. Snow Ski Trip 2-28-09
We will be doing a ski trip to Mt. Snow for Saturday Feb. 28, 2009. At this point we are going up in personal cars. We will meet at the shop at 7:00 am on Saturday and head up to MT Snow. We will be parking in the Sundance main lodge parking area. I will drive the van if people want to put their skis in and car pool.  There will also be snowshoeing in the afternoon for a cost of $10.00. I will be shoeing with that crew at 2:00 or so. The cost for the lift ticket for the trip will be $55.00. We have enough people signed up at this point so if you are un-decided you can still come if you pay by Friday evening.  Email me if you intend to come at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The weather report for Tuesday indicated that we were to get rain and snow showers for in the afternoon. So I decided not to post a ride. At 2:00 in the afternoon I received a call from Mark Newton and he said that the storm had gone to the south and we would be rain free for today and would I be willing to do a ride. Since I do not get to look at the weather reports during the workday I agreed and posted a ride. At 5:30 Mark arrived at the shop and soon thereafter he and I were joined by Steve Power and Matt Ballard.

Today I scheduled a ride for 5:00 from the shop. It was much warmer today that yesterday but with ice and snow still on the ground from the storm on Thursday I was not sure what the trails would be like. Shortly before 5:00 Mark Newton came for the ride and I got my gear on and was ready to roll.
