chriskoh2.jpg bicycle bob.jpg It rained on Thursday so I planned a road ride for Friday 3-27 at 5:30 from the shop. We had a group of 14 riders that set out from our parking lot and headed up the French King Highway to Adams behind me. I set a pretty mellow pace and I was on the front for half of the climb up the hill but I decided to pull off when some of the group passed me.

Mark Newton-sm.jpgWe only had 4 show up for this chilly ride. it was only around 40 degrees when Tommy Silco, Bob Shepard, Chris Williams, and I set out for this ride. Chris took the lead out down High street.  I then led the small crew down deerfield st to the bridge and made the turn left onto River rd. I kept a good steady pace up the first hill by Warners and was suprised to see everyone right there, so I pulled off and let Chris lead the way again. We rolled steady and soon were up and over the 3 rollers to get warmed up.

Today was the last of my “Two-Fer” days for this year. A “Two-Fer” is a day that I both ski and bike. Last week was a bust due to my getting ill on Sunday and again on Monday so I did not get to ski for the last two weeks, although I did ride.I arrived at Berkshire East at 9:00 and quickly got my boots on and then I headed up the hill on the triple chair left with Ed Ralicki. We got off the lift at the top of the hill and then headed for a warm-up rip down the Outback Trail. After that we headed for the more challenging trails on the east side of the mountain. The snow cover on the trails was adequate but there were lots of icy spots and bare ground which I was able avoid with my limited skiing skills. Ed and I had a great time over the next two hours and we covered a lot of terrain but by the time I had to leave the trails were pretty slushy. After leaving the slopes I headed down to Greenfield to get ready for the afternoon bike ride

It was a fairly warm and sunny day and I had scheduled a ride for 5:30 from the shop. Normally I would have been looking forward to this ride but since I had spent most of yesterday in the ER (the second day in a row, for different issues) with a migraine headache and I was a little worn out from the 12 hours of the ordeal. It was busy at the shop for most of the day so I had to hustle to get myself ready for the ride. I got a little behind when I had to help with the some last minute sales but I managed to get out the door at 5:40.

When I got home from work yesterday I felt like I had sore ribs. I felt that it must have been a muscle pull or something but I thought that the pain would go away after a while. Well I got up this morning and was loading my skis into the van and the pain was so bad that I decided to go get checked out at the hospital. The first thing that I said when I arrived at the hospital was that I had crushing chest pain and wanted to get checked. Well the good people at the hospital did a complete cardiac work up on me and at the end of the four hour stay they concluded that indeed I had a muscular/skeletal injury and they gave me a wicked good pain med and sent me on my way.
