A Tri-State Triumph for Chuck 7-30-09 PDF Print E-mail

I was a little tentative about scheduling the Tri-State ride because the forecast called for storms in the late afternoon. I was also concerned because the ride is a 50 miler and I did not want to chance having people caught out after dark. Well the storms never materialized and we had bright sunshine at 6:00 so the ride was on. Although it wasn’t stormy it was still pretty warm out so I loaded up three waterbottles and headed out to the parking lot to start the trip.

In a summer of rain and storms a hot, humid day seems like good weather to us, so I had planned on doing the Shutesbury ride to celebrate our good fortune. At 6:00 ride time we had a smallish group of 15 riders set for the trip. I was glad to see that Sir James and Curt were in attendance as that gave me hope that I would be able to do this ride. I left the shop in the middle of the pack and rode to the Esleeck Hill where gravity took over and I rocketed to the bottom of the hill in first place.

knoepfchen.jpgOnly 20 minutes after 5:30, Mitch pulled up in front of my house, mounted Behn and my bikes on his rack and off we were on our emotional journey to the Daughters of the American Revolution State Forest up in Goshen. While passing the Shelburne Falls Coffee Rosters on the Mohawk Trail, we noticed some scary clouds up ahead but we all chipped in and made them move over to Vermont.

Beginner Road Ride 7-27 PDF Print E-mail

bicycle bob.jpgThere were dark clouds on the western horizon as 6:00 ride time arrived but a quick check with the weather radar seemed to suggest that the storms were not going to make it here. So the riders who gathered for tonight’s trip, emboldened by that radar screen, agreed to head out for the planned 20 mile loop. The group that included Sir James, Tim Luippold, Todd Seager, Bruce Mainville, Mally-O, Joe Kayan, Sean Kelly, Bonnie Losick, Patrick and Kathy Jaques, Bad Bob, Paul Billings, Keith Olson (Mr. Miyata) and myself set off to do the ride.

Wendell MTB Ride 7-22 PDF Print E-mail

Bob-MTB.jpg

I haven’t been out on my MTB in a couple of weeks and for that matter I really haven’t put in a big effort to do so because I have been so busy at the shop. It is usually a matter of time not interest…but that is my issue. Anyway, I planned on riding at Wendell this evening and at 6:00 I was ready to head out the door when Knoepfchen walks in with her bike in pieces. It seems that she could not get her wheel into the frame and after a quick check I found that she needed to leave the bike for repairs. She really wanted to ride so I hooked her up with a demo bike and after loading it into the Red Rocket, we were off to Wendell.
