MT. Warner Road Ride 8-27 PDF Print E-mail

After getting pretty shellacked on Tuesday’s ride and knowing that Sir James and Curt would not be riding tonight, I decided to get the ride organized before we left the shop. To that end I asked the “A” group (Doug Dale, Mark Newton, Neil B., and Croke etc.) to pull ahead when we got to Ave A and leave the “B” group behind. This would keep those who wanted a faster pace from shattering the slower group when the speed goes up. When faster riders move from the back or middle of the larger group to the front they leave gaps in the paceline that is difficult for the “B” riders to close. This acceleration is not a problem for the faster riders but is often fatiguing to those in the slower group.

Wendell State Forest 8/26 Time for Lights! PDF Print E-mail

Hammerhead-sm.jpgThe weather prognosticators were warning of showers, thunderstorms and other catastrophic weather events, but despite a few benign clouds on the western horizon the drive from Hatfield to Wendell promised a superb evening for Mountain Biking.

As we arrived amidst a thickening cloud of cars and trucks sprouting wheeled appendages of various metals, elastomers and composites I assessed the crowd and concluded the route for tonight would remain more or less in the configuration Matt and I had discussed on the way up.

Cursed Ride 8-25 PDF Print E-mail

We had a fairly large group of riders assembled in the parking lot at 5:15 for our Cursed Ride to Guilford VT. I gave the group instructions that included the route options that I planned. I told the group that if you got dropped on the climb up Tyler Hill and it was getting on past 6:30, that that you should not try to do the whole loop but instead head south on RT 5. As for my plans, I have been pretty tired and running on the edge for the last couple of weeks so I was not too sure if I could do the entire trip right from the “get go”. That plus the fact that most of my “team” did not show left me with that sinking feeling after I gave the instructions to the group.

Bob-MTB.jpg

The weather forecast for Monday was for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon….what a surprise!!! But as the afternoon wore on the sky’s remained clear and the beginner rides were on. The first ride was the beginner road ride that left the shop with 10 riders to do the Sunderland Sweep. This ride was led by Paul and Doug Pratt and I hope to see a report from them on their trip. My ride was the beginner MTB ride and when I left the shop to go out for the ride there were 14 riders warming up in the parking lot.

THE DOUG DALE DANCE TO DEERFIELD AND DOWN

It was extremely hot and humid when we got ready to leave with absolutely no air movement tonight,so I was wondering how well I would be able to hang with the group tonight, as I felt that I was now hopefully recovered from the D2R2 last weekend. We did the normal TF route and then onto the bike path and onto river road.
