Today was a cloudy cool day with virtually no sun and the air felt like it could rain at any moment. I left the shop at 6:00 with Shizna and the bikes in my van. Joe was following us in his car. As we got to the airport the skies started to clear and by the time we got to Wendell there was bright sunshine, but very cool temps for this time of the year. I pulled into the parking lot where there was a group of riders waiting for us.

We decided to split the pack up and I took the beginners while J took the faster group (see his brief report below). Joining me was Mally, Tom G., Oliver Koh, Peter, and Joe. We headed out on the XC trail and rode at a nice pace over to Brook Road. Mally was stoked because she was able to ride the entire trail whereas last week she walked some of it. I was behind her and she along with Joe did a great job on the more technical aspects of this trail. We rode over to the Carlton-Dirth Trail and again both Mally and Joe did very well on this trail. We all walked across the bridges and the bog (I hope that we can get a re-route on this trail so that everyone can ride it.) and Joined Peter, Tom and Oliver out on the Carlton Road. I took a nice slow pace down the road and eventually I found the entrance to Harold’s Haiaits that I missed last week. The group did very well on this trail although some of the hills gave Mally and Joe a challenge. At the end of the trail we joined the rest of our group and decided to forgo the Wickett Pond Escape and instead we headed off down the road. As we rounded a corner on this road we encountered a fallen tree across the way. Tom and I managed to ride over it but poor ole Peter did a spectacular endo. Peter was OK and soon he was back on his bike. We stayed on the dirt roads and took a right onto the Brook Road where we climbed some pretty challenging hills. At the top of the last climb we stopped to rest and I asked everyone how they were doing. Mally and Joe were getting a little tired so we decided to head back to the ranger station. We rode down Wickett Pond to the gate and headed for the Pine Tree Trail. We rode down the Pine Tree Trail and then took the Pond Loop Trail back to the dam at Ruggles Pond. Mally did great on this trail and she was able to ride the rock work section which she walked last week. After we all got to the dam we headed up the hill back to the parking lot. Everyone seemed to enjoy the ride. Jason stopped by and told us of his woe and he waited for his crew to arrive before we all headed for home.
