Charge Your Lighting System's Batteries
Every month, whether you use your lights or not, the batteries will lose about 10% of their charge. So it is important to keep those expensive units in tip top shape. Plug your batteries into the charger for a day or so and you will be ready for a summer or fall night ride. If we have some really hot days and it looks like we can;t ride I may post a mid summer night ride.

I have been doing the beginner MTB rides for the last few weeks on the Montague Plains and tonight was another ride. I arrived at the common to find that Mitch, Kelly, Alex, Ryan and Ben Collins were waiting for me. I got my bike out of the van and the six of us headed for the Telephone Pole Trail.

The Last Weekday Ride To Wendell-2010
Ride Reports

I knew that I was not going to be doing a very fast pace on tonight's ride to Wendell but my hope was to hang on to the group for as long as possible before getting dropped. Today was the first of our 5:30 rides for the fall season and we had 30 riders show up for the trip up to Wendell. I got the ride rolling out of the parking lot just at 5:30. I got into the middle of the group as we rode down High Street and pedaled easy as we headed down the hill to Turners Falls.

Once again we had a celebrity show up for our Monday night beginner ride. Keith (Lance) Olson arrived at 5:00 with one of his “vintage” racing bikes; a 1937 Treech Mad One, car bon fibber road machine. He was immediately surrounded by his adoring fans (himself) and was talking non-stop about his past glories as the rest of the riders for tonight’s trip started to arrive. Joining Lance was Roger, Christina, Megan, Bad Bob, Paul, Patrick, Marc Eckstrom, Tom Graney, Bonnie and me.

Tyler Hill Thrashing for Bob 8-26

bicycle bob.jpg

As the daylight diminishes the rides are getting shorter so that we can finish the routes before dark. Tonight we headed north to Tyler Hill with a group of 30 riders. My plan was to keep out of the wind for as long as possible so that I could hang with the group over Tyler Hill. After that I wouldn’t have any problems dealing with the pace. I led the group from the shop over to Bernardston Road. It took a while for everyone to get going so I tried to keep the speed down until all the riders were in the paceline.

Bob, Alex and Kelley Ride The Plains
Ride Reports

muddy_bob-small.jpgI have tried to keep up with the ride reports but last week I got so far behind that I gave up. We had a good week of riding and I got to do rides on Monday with the beginner group; Tuesday a Cave Hill ride with the “B” Squad; Wednesday I did a MTB ride with Ant Penny; and I finished the week with a ride down to Amherst with the “B” group.

This week we got rained out on Monday and Tuesday’s ride was a four person ride. I could not gowith them because we just got a huge shipment in and I had to get that squared away.Silko, Four Sticks, Al Mason and Lauren did a ride over to Millers Falls and back through Norhfield and Bernardston.

Livestrong Challenge - Philadelphia
Ride Reports
Written by mark
Monday, 23 August 2010

Mark Newton-sm.jpgWhen Bob let me know about Mary Ellen's cancer diagnosis, I became very angry with this terrible disease. Cathy and I have both lost too many family and friends to this awful disease, and we still have too many people we know fighting the disease. So it became an issue of what can we do to help with those affected by this. It had been 5 years since I had done the Livestrong Challenge in Philadelphia, so Cathy and I decided to do this again as our little part inhelping this cause. We signed up to do the 10K walk on Saturday and I would do the Century ride on Sunday.
