Charge Your Lighting System's Batteries
Every month, whether you use your lights or not, the batteries will lose about 10% of their charge. So it is important to keep those expensive units in tip top shape. Plug your batteries into the charger for a day or so and you will be ready for a summer or fall night ride. If we have some really hot days and it looks like we can;t ride I may post a mid summer night ride.

Sugarloaf North-The Up and Down Ride
Ride Reports

liam.jpgI'm very proud of the power loops that have evolved on SugarloafNorth, the little traveled bigger, higher sister to the scenically over-visited Sugarloaf South. My Wednesdays have all been filled with tournament baseball this Summer so I haven't attended a single shop ride. I thought I'd give back by offering to lead a ride on my favorite fitness loop right in my backyard.

A few years ago I got the idea of a ride that went to all 26 towns in Franklin County. I spent a little time looking at possible routes and determined it would probably be a ride of 130-140 miles, and that was a little more than I could conceive of doing at the time. So I forgot about it.

The Dark Knights Do Wendell-Warwick Ride
Ride Reports

Although we got a fair amount of rain earlier in the afternoon the sky had cleared and the ride was on. It was supposed to be a clear and calm night for our ride to Wendell and Warwick but the heat and humidity was also going to be oppressive. We had a small group of 20 riders when I wheeled out of the parking lot to head over to Turners Falls. I was planning on keeping to the back of the group until we got to the firehouse and then see what happened. My plan went well and the group actually split up after the top of the L Street hill. We set a nice pace behind Curt and Silko and the faster group was just ahead of us.

Road Ride to Mt.Warner 7-29
Ride Reports

Today was good day for me because I was able to get home for a couple hours rest before heading back to the shop to finish the day’s work and get ready for the ride. Tonight we were going to do the MT. Warner ride from Montague and we had a large group assembled at 6:00. I led the group from the parking lot and over to Turners Falls but as soon as we crossed Avenue A I headed for the back of the pack. With 28 riders in the group we needed to break the group up and the Seventh Street Hill is just the place for that.

Bob, Beth and Daryl Do Wendell 7-29
Ride Reports

Bob-MTB.jpg

After getting pretty whipped last night I was planning on bailing out on the MTB ride in Wendell tonight. I told Matt that I was only going to ride if there were some riders who wanted an easy pace. When I got to the ranger station I was greeted by Mitch, Mark Newton, Todd Cochi, Matt Sullivan, Todd Amato, Daryl, Beth, and Adam. After a brief discussion about the route we headed off for the X-C Trail. Since we had two new riders in the group I always opt for this choice just in case the newer riders have trouble getting down the trail. If they do then I can head down Brook Road and do a nice easy loop in the park. If they don’t have any problems with the trail then we can head down the more challenging Carlton-Dirth.

A Hilly Sufferfest For Bob
Ride Reports

I had thought about doing a ride up to Shelburne via Greenfield Road earlier this year but hadn’t done it because Zera Fiske Road was torn up. So when I heard that the road had been repaired and re-paved I scheduled the ride for tonight. I was feeling a little harried as the ride time approached and I did not think I was going to be able to ride as I was helping a customer with a bike purchase. Lucky me…the deal got done at 5:50 and I was out the door at 6:00. I gave my short talk on the route dangers and then the group of thirty riders followed me out of the parking lot and down High Street.
