Charge Your Lighting System's Batteries
Every month, whether you use your lights or not, the batteries will lose about 10% of their charge. So it is important to keep those expensive units in tip top shape. Plug your batteries into the charger for a day or so and you will be ready for a summer or fall night ride. If we have some really hot days and it looks like we can;t ride I may post a mid summer night ride.

Wendell:Damage Report

I finally got the trusty Giant AC out of the basement today and headed over to Wendell for a ride. I parked at Carlton Rd(or Dirth, I never get them right) and took the Carlton-Dirth to the Old XC Trail to get the rust off.

The mysterious disappearance of C. Sutton
Ride Reports

Despite thunder storm forecasts all day, it never rained and actually cleared up just in time for the ride. I was joined by Ed Hofmeister, Mitch, Corey Sutton, Glenn Beauchesne, Erin Green, Rob Williams and Rob Ralston. We left the ranger station lot around 6:15pm and took the road across the street up for a close to 2 hour ride on the Robert Frost trail that unfortunately ended about as well as it started (don't worry, everything in between was awesome!)...

Summer Solstice ride at the DAR
Ride Reports

knoepfchen.jpgSince Arn's wonderful article in the Greenfield Recorder came out I have received a lot of inquiries about tonight's beginner ride at the DAR. I took a wrong turn on my way up and arrived just when the ride was supposed to start to find a group of 14 riders waiting for me. Much to my delight, about half where riders I had not ridden with before including three women! After I hurriedly got ready, we rolled out of the parking lot on this beautiful ot summer day around 6:30 for a relaxed 2 hour ride on the fun but challenging trails of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) State Forest trails.

Although we had cloudy skies for most of the day and there were predictions of storms by 6:00 the skies had cleared and we were set for a nice long ride down the eastern side of the valley. We had a group of 23 riders ready to roll out at ride time. My plan was to do a 54 mile ride and I announced the route to the group (although there are always a few who do not pay attention to last minute route updates and lead the group off course) before jetting out of the parking lot at 5:58.

Wendell State Forest 6/16/10
Ride Reports

I posted an “If it isn't raining” ride for Wendell on Tuesday hoping the weather would cooperate, turns out it did! It was still overcast as I decided to make the trek up from Hatfield, leaving the house about quarter of 6. I had posted Matt as co-leader of the ride, but he was waylay-ed putting the final touches on a Super D bike he's taking to Whiteface this weekend. I arrived to find Mitch frantically making phone calls trying to ascertain if the ride was still on. We decided to give it a go

bicycle bob.jpg

It was a perfect night for a ride. We had sunny skies, not much wind and temps in the upper seventies. The route for tonight’s ride was the Brook Road/Shelburne Falls/Conway loop with the possibility of adding in the Whatley extension if time (and energy) allowed. We had 22 riders that started out behind me at 6:00 and I led the group through the back streets of Greenfield over to Silver Street.
